SOUTH AMBOY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Four homes have been evacuated after a large sinkhole opened up in a neighborhood in South Amboy.
It happened around 6:40 a.m. Tuesday on Gordon Street.
Very few details are known, but officials say the sinkhole is believed to have been caused by a water main break. Video from the scene shows a small SUV covered in mud that appears to have been swallowed up as the road gave way.
South Amboy police say Gordon Street will be closed until further notice in the area east of Pine Avenue as crews make emergency repairs. Drivers and pedestrians are being urged to avoid the area.
